UEFA Euro 2008: Switzerland vs. Portugal result 2-0
Portugal met with the co-hosts Switzerland in their final match of the Group. Portugal are already qualified to quarter-finals after two consecutive victories against Turkey and Czech republic, while the co-hosts have lost to the same two opponents and were hoping to exit the EURO 2008 in style with a first success.
The game with little at stake, the match had never found its rhythm like many have expected, and neither side had assumed domination. Both teams had a couple of good chances to open the score.
We had to wait for the 71st minute to see Hakan Yakin score the first goal for Switzerland after receiving a ball from the edge of the area that he steered through the legs of the goalkeeper.
The same player added a second goal at the 83rd minute and gave the co-hosts their first victory in this championship.
Even if it's Portugal and Turkey who progress to the quarter finals, at the end of the match, the Swiss players walked around the pitch holding a big banner saying 'Merci, Kobi' (Thanks Kobi), the coach was visibly moved.
