Panties for peace: Undergarments against Burmese junta !
Several women's organizations called Tuesday women from Quebec in an unusual protest against the Burmese junta asking them to send their undergarments to the Embassy of Burma.
The call initiated by the Quebec women's federation (FFQ) and thirty organizations is a part of an international campaign to denounce the brutality of the Burmese junta against its population and women in particular, according to Michele Asselin, president of the FFQ.
The initiative of the campaign "The Panties for Peace" was made by a group of Burmese women, Lanna Action for Burma (LAB), and was started after the brutalities of last fall against of the pro-democracy demonstrations led by monks.
These women have chosen this method of protest to frighten the military junta, the generals in Burma, who are superstitious fear that contact with a woman's undergarment will rob them of their power.
